MEET THE CHOIR THAT HOUSE BUILT
The late great Frankie Knuckles once called house music: “church for people that have fallen from grace.” Anyone who has been caught up in the rapture of a true house classic can testify to its power to unify and uplift.

House Gospel Choir is the place where spirituality and the euphoria of the dancefloor come together. Founded by Creative Producer & vocalist Natalie Maddix, HGC is a voice for those that can sing… but don’t always know the words! It’s a home for anyone who has ever found themselves lost in music at a festival, or in a night club… or on the tube on the way to work.

The choir brings together outstanding singers, all passionate about music and performance and dedicated to giving a great show. Directed by the seasoned powerhouse vocalist, ShezAr; HGC’s leaders have a history of working with choirs and have sessioned and toured with the likes of The Kooks, MNEK, Scissor Sisters, Wretch 32, Naughty Boy, Gorgon City, Stormzy and Labrinth – to name a few. House Choir shows are amped up even further by DJ Fonti, formerly of the legendary Heartless Crew, and his effortless mixing and blending of the biggest tunes House & Garage tunes. Percussion from Dezy Bongo and live keyboards by Stevie Mac combine with the troupe to create an authentic House meets Gospel sound that never fails to raise the roof.

Throughout 2014 HGC delivered rousing sets at Glastonbury, Latitude Festival and Buckingham Palace, as well as sold out shows at the ACE Hotel Shoreditch as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. 2015 saw HGC continue to deliver sold out performances for Norfolk & Norwich and Hull Freedom Festival’s as well as two headline show’s at Shoreditch’s Rich Mix. 2016 got off to an exciting start with HGC taking their party on the road to Australia for 2 sold out shows as part of the Perth International Arts Festival.

The choir has been seen with Labrinth on Later… with Jools Holland, the New Year’s Eve Special of Top of the Pops and this summers’ BBC Proms with John Cale honouring the late great David Bowie. They can also be heard lending backing vocals to UK dance duo Gorgon City’s latest single “Saving My Life.”

HGC is built on the understanding that we can’t all speak at the same time and have our voices heard but we can sing together as one voice and be understood. Our mantra applies to the audience too, who are always encouraged to join in with call and response, hand clapping, dancing and simply having a good old time. So next time the invitation goes out, come along to a HGC show and witness an authentic and electrifying House meets Gospel experience like no other. Church!
